Poiana Stampei Sports Hall

At 900 metres, 19 kilometres from Vatra Dornei, the commune has its own indoor swimming pool. It is the sports hall, built by Poiana Stampei for its own people and open to those passing through.

The water side

The pool is heated, with loungers along the edge and light coming in sideways through the long windows. Next to it are the sauna, the jacuzzi and the salt room — four ways to loosen up after a day on the road or on the mountain.

In summer, after a hike in the Călimani, warm water does more than a good meal. In winter, when it is minus fifteen outside, this is the only place around where you get into water.

The sports side

Under the same roof: halls for football, volleyball and basketball, with parquet and fresh markings, plus a gym with machines for every muscle group. Outside, the artificial turf pitch, floodlit and fenced all around.

For the evenings when you would rather not break a sweat, there are the table tennis tables and the billiards.

Getting there and booking

The hall is in the centre of Poiana Stampei, a few hundred metres from DN17 — the road linking Vatra Dornei to Bistrița over the Tihuța Pass. Twenty minutes from town.

Bookings are made by phone — the number is in the contact box alongside. Call ahead: the halls are rented out, and weekends fill up quickly.
