The building in the centre of the commune carries a man's name: Elisei Todașcă, for years the mayor of Poiana Stampei. After his death the Local Council decided that the hall where the village gathers on feast days should bear his name — „in sign of respect, so that his name is not forgotten”.
So it happens that in Poiana Stampei the most important cultural address is not a monument, but a place you walk into.
What happens here, year after year
February brings the Farmers' Ball: hundreds of people in authentic folk dress, at an event that reached its 24th edition in 2026. It is not a show put on for tourists — it is how the commune counts its households.
In April the hall hosts the zonal stage of the county folklore festival-competition „Comori de suflet românesc”, with ensembles from across the area.
July brings the Commune Days and the national festival „Flori de pe Dorna”, under the banner „Poiana Stampei – the Gateway to Bukovina”.
And on 25 December, from 7 p.m., comes „Sfânta Seară de Crăciun” — carols, winter customs and folk theatre, with the hall packed.
The library, on the ground floor
The Communal Library works in the same building, open since 1959. It holds 8,107 volumes across 7,241 titles, a reading room with six seats and four computers with internet access; copying and scanning are available. Some 251 registered readers pass through.
Opening hours: Monday–Wednesday, 12:00–16:00 · Friday, 08:00–16:00.

Not only for feast days
The hall is busy only a few days a year. The rest of the time it is the largest covered space in the commune: a stage, a sound system, rows of seats that move as needed. It suits a conference, a company meeting, a launch or a party — from a team spending a few days in Bukovina to a family celebration.
Bookings and terms are arranged with the town hall — the number is in the contact box alongside.
Getting there
The Cultural House stands in the centre of the commune, beside DN17 — the road coming down from the Tihuța Pass towards Vatra Dornei. The programme of the performance hall is announced before each event; for bookings and information, call the town hall.
